#96 Saying "get a sense of humour" is a common tactic for silencing people you disagree with. Some people (myself included) were offended by the aunt's statement and a lot of the comments here. The fact that (some of) the comments were made humorously does not change the fact that they are offensive. The aunt was not simply pointing out that her niece is sexually active, but suggesting that the mother should take action to stop her. The commenters here call her a ****, which is almost universally an insult, and a sexist one at that. (It doesn't matter if the comment was not meant to be sexist - the word has sexist connotations, and should not be used.) I can't speak for the people who commented here, but the fact is that overall, women who sleep around are shamed and insulted much more often than their male counterparts. I doubt the aunt would have made a similar comment if the OP were male, for instance. Those of us who get offended by one FML don't lack a sense of humour, we just aren't amused by the same tiring ****-shaming that we see everywhere else.
