Today, the girl who'd asked me to prom told me she assumed we weren't going together and is now going with her friends. After agreeing to go with her, I'd bought a $200 non-refundable suit along with the ticket. I have no one else to go with. FML

Today, a friend texted me to get a ticket and go to a theme park with her tomorrow. I bought a ticket and didn't hear from her until 5 hours later to say she was sorry, but she doesn't think she'll be going. It was $65 and non refundable. FML

Today, I wanted to take my girlfriend to a nice dinner before prom. Her parents followed her in, and joined us to "keep an eye on me." They interrupted all our conversations, ate an expensive meal, then got up and walked out when the waitress brought the $95 check, leaving me to pay for it. FML

The conversation started OK, but then morphed into her saying that she doesn't feel anything between us, and wants to stop being friends after the dance. I hope OP comes by to give us more details because I am confused. How can she ask OP to prom and they say yes, and then she doesn't think they've agreed to go together? Is she just stupid or flaky, or was the whole thing just a cruel game or what?

Schools still sell prom tickets? You can't just... go? Guess that's a perk of living in a small town. Also, you're not allowed to just go by yourself? I realize it may not be as much fun, but surely you have some friends you can hang out with.
