Alas, poor Stuart

Today, while standing by the kitchen window I noticed a mouse running across our lawn on top of the snow. I called my two daughters to come see it, but by the time they got to the window a hawk was shredding the poor thing to pieces. My kids didn't stop crying for two hours. FML

That sounds like a traumatic experience, especially if they had just finished watching Ratatouille or something. I totally would have cried.

Theres a line between not caring about the life of a rodent and being sadistic. You crossed it.

It sucks that they were so upset but at least it was a mouse and it was quick. It's not like it was the family dog getting hit by a car or something, this will help them learn in small doses that the world is a fairly violent place.

Exactly, apfluxx. The world is a ****** up place, granted, but no kids shouldn't have to see that shit. And they probably DID see it because there was snow on the ground, and if something alive's being "torn to pieces", it'll probably be a little bloody. And why are there so many ******* 12 year olds on this shit? I'm 16, sure, but it pisses me off whenever some little ***** post the stupidest comments ever put on the Internet.

I've been fishing and hunting since I was 6 years old. I've seen my dad shoot deer at 5. I never cried. People are raising their kids to be pansies.

It's called understanding nature. Not everything is ******* rainbows and butterflies.

your kids are *******. you need to be a better parent. the facts of life are big animals kill small animals.

Overprotective parents like you are the cause of mental break out for kids. Unfortunately they can't cope 'cuz they're being overshadowded 24/7 by their parents. It's called the Cycle of Life lady, get used to It. Your child or any other kid Isn't an angel from above who above and when they're deprived of reality, their "perfect lives" and crushed when they grow up and go In their real life. Go back to Shangrillah and raise your perfect little kids there. "Get real. A five year-old doesn't know reality like we do. At that age everything is innocent and misunderstood." Inoocent and misunderstood? Ever got acquainted with Freud's theory? "I seriously hope you sickos don't have kids." I seriously hope your kids never watch the Discovery channel either or they'll see Lions ripping baby fawns apart and 2 ton Elephants rubbing their man bags on the Ham walets.

eh, just talk to them about how the hawk has to eat too. Its hard for kids to watch something get torn to pieces. But they have to accept that its a fact of life and that they cant cry over it every time. let them watch discovery channel once in a while. it'll help with the desensitizing. and the birds and the bees. lol

Agreed, 8 & 9. They aren't '*******'. They're human. For all you know, they could have been very young, I know even now I would've found that a horrible thing to watch. My friend, took me to see Avatar, & I hated it. Purely for the reason, I cried the whole way through it. & the point boatkicker brought up was a good one. You might like to eat a certain type of meat, but you don't want to see the animal that's died for it in it's darkest moment.

Apfluxx is right, actually. My cousin's family brought her up to watch horror films & things being killed from the age of 3. She was far from 'innocent', and she was picked on for it. It maybe made her more logical, but her family also have a history of mental illnesses, and I don't think she'll 'benefit' from any of it. If anything, they deprived her of a normal childhood. Children should be sheltered from such gory scenes until they reach an age where they are READY to know.
