You totally deserved it... think twice before you tell people how worthless they are and whatnot...the next fml is going to be about a selfish ass hole boss who couldn't even be understanding when her Mother tried to commit suicide...I hope she quits and you have to do what you make her do everyday...maybe you'll start being greatful anybody shows up to work at all for you. And those of you "Ohhhhh, she should have called'... really how does that work... young lady, your Mother is in a coma in the emergency room, we need to know if we can pump her stomach before she dies from ______________" OF COURSE she should have said "lemme give you a call back about that, I gotta call my asshole of a boss and ask if its ok to take the morning off for this"
No matter what, if you don't show up at work in time, you ******* call in. So I am totally with the OP. I would have given her a formal warning before she even made it through the door. PO, totally not your fault.
Wow you're a moron. First of all, OP never said she called her 'worthless' or anything like that. She was mad because she was left alone without any help during her shift. Wouldn't you be pissed too? Secondly, she went off on her BEFORE the girl told her her mom tried to commit suicide. Reading comprehension, get you some. Also, I have a feeling that if her mother was trying to commit suicide, she was either with her mother or at the hospital. Is it a crappy situation? Yes. But she still has responsibilities, regardless of whatever life brings forth, and calling her supervisors to let them know she's not going to be at work that day is one of them. Makes me wonder how many people on FML actually have jobs.
Wow, Im a moron? Really... Im sorry... I paraphrased... "Predetermined judgements...went off... wrote up" sounds to me like mes an overreacting jerk. Again, I maintain asking "what happened to you today, I needed you!!!" would have been a much more appropriate approach as opposed to "Going off on her" as soon as she walked in the door. Would I be pissed too? I would be extremely unhappy that I did not get a call and wonder what the hell happened... but I also would have tried to call her myself, and also when she SHOWED UP, ask her why she was late and didnt call... I DO have a job as a matter of fact, but I also am competent enough to be able to do the work that needs to be done in case someone doesnt come in. The show must go one, no one should be shutting down their business because ONE employee didnt come in. He sounds like the typical "manager" at his daddy's place, that is only there because his daddy owns it, but apparently cant do the job of somebody beneath him in his business?! "reading comprehension...get you some" Ummm thanks for your uneducated statement on what it is I need. Let me tell you something, Im young and extremely marketable as did "get me some" reading comprehension, there is NO JOB on this ******* EARTH that takes "precidents" to my Mother if she attempted suicide...Frankly I would quit on the spot if MY boss treated me that way, and Im pretty sure he knows it...I have never NOT called in, but let me tell you something, MY boss would have CALLED me and asked WHY I was not in the office, if everything was ok, please call to let him know things are ok, and is there anything he could do for me... why because he KNOWS I would NEVER do something like that without good reason. Maybe he should hire more reliable people in the first place, so he doesnt automatically assume his employees are ditching him, or he should just stop being a dick off the bat.
Wow, aren't you just a special little snowflake? Hate to break it to you, but in the /real/ world, most people get written up when they pull a no call/no show. In fact, I would say that they would be less likely to be written up if it was actually the owner's son who was managing, because small businesses tend to be more lax about these things than large corporations. I don't think that a manager should yell at an employee, because it's unprofessional. However, I don't think the write-up was at all unreasonable, because the employee should have found at least a few minutes to call work to explain. With cell phones in abundance, I don't think there's any real reason why a phone call couldn't have been made at some point.
Let me know when you come to the real world, where people get written up for acting irresponsibly. Until then, your job makes me LOL. I sympathize with the situation, I really do, but until OP knows about the situation S/HE HAS EVERY SINGLE RIGHT TO WRITE THAT PERSON UP. OP is not running a daycare, s/he does not have to call and remind his/her employees that they have work that day, it is not their job. Obviously she was able to do this work alone, but it really does suck to do the work of two people by yourself. And LOL forever at "uneducated statement". One uneducated statement out of a large paragraph in plain english. Sorry you don't understand internet speak, but that is not my problem. Also, thanks for the completely irrelevant story about your boss. Your boss =/= management everywhere. Management should not have to call their employees to remind them that they have work today. It is the responsibility of the employee to ensure their supervisor knows what is going on (and is typically in any paperwork filled out before beginning a new job) and whether or not they are coming in.
not necessarily.. if you're in a large company you might not really "know" every employee. Also, it could have been a new manager.
doesn't it give you a feeling of security to know that an employer in today's workplace and society doesn't have a clue in regards to using possessive and plural nouns? **** your employee's life.....on many different levels.
There is always a phone. It's the employee's fault for not calling and saying an emergency came up. If I care about my job, I am damn sure going to call.

Way to explode too soon! Didn't you notice this is out of her character??? YDI.
How would you have known? IMO, not your fault.
