Awkward...

Today, I went to this coffee shop in town that has a fire pit outdoors with my boyfriend. I threw out the idea of sitting by the fire together, and he responded by telling me that his father and dog died in a house fire when he was young. FML

While that is sad if he didn't tell you before this how is it your fault I mean jeez you gotta let people know this stuff so they can try and avoid this it's one thing if you knew it's totally different if you didn't

This right here. People can deal with horrible stuff, and you have no idea because it's not like some physical scar. I was reminded of a 80's movie called THE MONSTER SQUAD where an elderly man tells the protagonists about various stories and legends. One of the kids think's he's pretty smart, and the old man only smiles and says he knows a lot about monsters. It's only when he closes the door that you see the concentration-camp number tattoo on his forearm. It was a sobering concept in a supposed comedy.
