Because I'm worth it

Today, a mother wrote me a $130 check for babysitting her four kids for a few hours. Trying to be gracious, I said, "Wow, thank you, this is very generous!" She thought for a minute, then said, "You're right." She took the check back, ripped it up, and wrote me a new one for $55. FML

you should have just said "thank you" and gone straight to the bank

ouch.. well at least now you know. still 55 bucks is great for 4 kids for a few hours. i baby sat 6 kids and 2 infants for 8 hours and only made 100. consider yourself lucky

YDI, because this should be a lesson to you... Don't. Say. Anything. (Aside from thanks of course)

Wow what a bitch. Next time just say "Thank you" and get the hell out of there.

at least she gave you that much... i babysat two kids from 4pm OVERNIGHT to the next morning, helped them with their homework, took them out to dinner, put them to bed, had to get them ready for school, drive them to their bus stop, then get to my school on time.. the bitch gave me $40.. i for real wanted to kill her

bahahaha that is soooo funny. you just made my day.

I don't understand people who are saying YDI, like "that's what you get for being grateful!" Uh, what?? Due to everyone freaking out about "TEH ECONOMIE," part time work basically does not exist in my area, so I'd be pretty damn grateful for any situation that put money in my pocket without me having to drop out of school. And while rates should always be confirmed BEFORE the job starts, we don't know that that *wasn't* done here -- perhaps the mother had a brain fart when she wrote the initial check, or decided to add extra on her own (and then take it back)... Or perhaps it was the kind of situation where you don't really have an option to say "no" anyway (like with a relative or a neighbor that has done you a bunch of favors or whatever), no matter what the pay. Either way, this mother probably just lost a babysitter. Who else is going to put up with her four kids that probably don't have any manners either?

that was a real asshole move on her part. i wouldnt babysit for her again unless i really, really needed the money (no matter how cheap shes going to be)
