It happens, and it sucks every time it does. For short trips I just take a carry on. It’s a nuisance, but it won’t get lost… Best case is it gets lost coming back home and then shows up. Worst case is it gets lost outbound and you don’t have a change of clothes… I lived in Melbourne FL at one time. My baggage got lost coming back from a domestic USA flight. But somehow my bag wound up in Melbourne Australia! It took about a week to show up after I put in a claim.
I experienced this when I flew across the country to my home town for Christmas, a 40 minutes flight, and filled out a lost luggage paper from the airline, and two days later I got a phone call from a delivery guy, who stood outside my home, where I had travelled from, wondering where I was, and two days after that I got my suitcase delivered to my holiday home, but you might be luckier...
