A lot does go into determining your rates. Even moving to the next block down can change them. You also have your credit score, type of vehicle, vehicle color, age, gender, condition/hypothetical value of your vehicle, and a few others I can't remember off the top of my head. I work for an insurance company myself, and I have seen policies range anywhere from under $50/month to over $800/month for a single car. Just depends on the factors.
It's likely that her insurance will jump if she's CONVICTED of the crime, not merely charged.
A moving violation does not automatically mean an increase in rates. You are allowed a certain number of points against your license before it affects your rates. Accidents, however, that result in more than $1000 in damages hurt you big time.
Mate go in and talk to your insurance people and work it out.
But you hit someone's car, your sister didn't. You were both being reckless, but you caused damage no matter how minor you view it
She was charged with reckless because she rear ended someone. Destroying the front of her car, and damaged the other persons bumper. Much more than the bumper I merely tapped.
I sympathise. My insurance went way up for tapping someone's bumper probably because she tried to claim an injury (whip lash) and claimed her car was damaged even though there wasn't any damage to either car :P
that's why you take a shitton if photos
Probably because if she was driving recklessly they don't need to cover a claim for her but they already did have to pay money for your claim, simple. Don't see how being charged or not would change anything anyways.
My insurance continues to go up because the vehicle I own is now apprantly more likely to be involved in an accident. They used floods which wrote off thousands of vehicles (at no fault of the owners) to do it. Cost went up over $300/y and max insurable value plumtted by over 2k. Awesome.
Don't fret OP, obviously your sister has made a deal with the devil.

Let's just say that it really depends on the person. The credit score and claims history is most important. It also depends on the quality of the insurance company. I'm Jake and I work at State Farm.
What car insurance does she have? I want it!
