Today, I overheard my mother and sister talking so I stopped to eavesdrop. I recently enlisted in the Marines, and they were talking about what they would do with the money if I died. FML

Today, while chatting with my in-laws, I told them about my upcoming spinal surgery. Soon after, when I went to get us some drinks, I overheard them murmuring about how many surgeries I've already had, how I'm a drain on the healthcare system, and how I should ideally just die. FML

Today, I listened to a voicemail from my mom about how she misses me and can't wait to see me when I get back from vacation. Thinking she hung up, my mother then had a conversation with my aunt about how quiet the house is without me and how she'd be blessed if I didn't come home. FML

Dude, don't sign their names for any type of compensation. You do have a say as to who your money goes to. If anything, leave it to a trusted relative, say your father, or even grandparents. Not to someone who would just take advantage of the money.

well as a Marine i must say, who the **** cares what they do with the money, by the time they get it youre dead. if they spend it on the funeral thats nice but shit my family could dump my body on a sidewalk im just a corpse at that point

Ugh, disgusting. Some people have no respect for those who lay their lives down for this country. Sign your money off to someone who actually deserves it or to charity. And to add insult to injury, write a particularily scathing later about this incident and have it sent to them in the event that you die. Of course, let's hope that doesn't happen in the first place. Best of luck to you man, I have family in the armed forces (Air Force and Marines) and I worry about them all the time.
