By Anonymous - This FML is from back in 2009 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I was so excited to play the video game I just bought, I decided to read the manual in the game. I went over the seizure warning and thought to myself, who the hell gets a seizure from playing a video game? Apparently I do. FML

When will people remember this? Just because ALL THE FMLs AUTOMATICALLY start with "Today", it doesn't mean that they happened the same day! Anyway, that sucks a lot, especially if you're a big gamer - I'd be bummed if it were me. I'm curious about what game it was now, though.

I could see how you could get one, i get so frazzled when i cant capture the Jelly fish in bikini bottom on the spongebob 3-game.

Partial seizures often don't show up on EEG's. It took 2.5 yrs. for my focal point to be found for surgery, since the majority of seizures I was having were simple partials and complex partials. They'd secondarily generalize into a tonic clonic once in a while, but that showed on the VEEG like I had seizures starting on both sides. It wasn't until I had Ictal SPECT testing done, that they got a good picture of where the seizures started. Dehydration and stress can both be a cause of seizures when you have epilepsy. Herbal stuff isn't the best thing to try. My license was suspended 23 yrs. ago, because I had a seizure behind the wheel. I had gone 20 yrs. without a major seizure, but they decided to return, and weren't able to be put back under control until I had surgery in '02.

Photosensitive or pattern sensitive epilepsy - The same effect that enables an EEG to induce seizures is what causes seizures in video games. You are more likely to get a seizure from a video game than an EEG (the test used to diagnose epileptical seizures) because video games have contrasting colors, fast movement, and rapid light flashes. Red in particular induces seizure activity. Whereas the EEG just does rapid flashing white lights, and the lighting is slowed when you show seizure activity, and stopped when you show a seizure. Wheras video games don't stop in response to your brain waves

Even though photosensitive epilepsy is rare in adults (something like 3 % of 1% of the US population), its decently common in children and young teenagers. Also, 1 in 10 people are photosensitive and those people will be likely to experience a non-epileptical seizure if they are repeatedly exposed to flashing bright lights, in particular with contrasting colors over a long period of time -more so if the room isn't well lit and they aren't taking a 15 minute break each hour. most photosensitive people don't know they are photosensitive - people typically only take the test for it if someone in their immediate family has epilepsy

Ya that dude was Prototype in the dark. I played that game in the dark for fifteen minutes and I had a massive migrane.
