Casual

By Anonymous - This FML is from back in 2016 but it's good stuff - United States - San Antonio

Today, I had to politely nod and say, "Ah, OK…" as my grandpa told me that he's not racist; he just doesn't think it's right for black men to associate with white women. He's well aware that my boyfriend is black. FML

Why couldn't you politely tell him that you absolutely don't agree and in the future, you will be more comfortable if he keeps his racist thoughts to himself?

What a moron! Everybody knows the TRUE measure of racial tolerance is how many friends of other races you have.

To some people issues are just black and white

Though his statements are hurtful to listen to, it cannot diminish your feelings for your boyfriend. Just be mindful not to introduce them; as his words will hurt your significant other. You have to take only the good from the world and not imbibe any hate.

Apparently, he doesn't know you can't go back.

Ahhhhh, casual racism... Next time politely tell him to f*** off!!

I would be hilarious if future humans just turn into a mix of every physical characteristic.

I can do you one better. My grandfather talks down about Mexicans, but I am 1/4 Mexican. I know he loves me and he practically raised me, but my dad is 1/2 Mexican so I can only imagine what it was like when he and my mom were dating and married. I think he forgets because my dad and I are whiter than most white people. We don't look Mexican AT ALL and people are so shocked when they find out despite my maiden name being Lopez, the Jones of Mexico. Ha!

He might not be racist just because he doesn't agree with interracial relationships, he was raised in a different time. He didn't try to break you up or even scold you it's his opinion and no one should be offended.

my uncle said the same thing to me when i went to visit him in the nursing home with the intention of breaking the news to him that my new boyfriend is black ?
