Close call

Today, while working at a children's day camp, one of the kids who is allergic to peanuts went into anaphylactic shock. I ran and grabbed the boy's Epipen. I was holding it backwards so the injection went into my hand, causing me to pass out, and both of us to be rushed to hospital. FML

Not panicking is a good thing. Also, paying attention during the first aid training. And it's "epi pen", for the record.

Too bad you can't spell anything else....

today I went into an anaphyleptic shock while some guy tried to put the epi pen on my leg,the idiot stabbed himself with it and we both had to go to the er.fml

ROFL!! F the kids life, oh wth FYL too!!

too much adrenaline can cause a heart attack and death....and there r direcgions right on the epi pen itsself on how to use it

I don't know about passing out but spiking an epipen or anapen into your finger/hand/anywhere apart from the thigh needs urgent medical treatment as it can, in extreme circumstances, lead to the hand/finger etc needing to be amputated. It is also surprisingly easy to do in a panic as, if you're rushing, you could easily hold the pen the wrong way round and push the button/pen. OP - hope both you and the boy were ok. At least you knew what needed to be done, even if things went wrong. Some people would have done nothing.

at least you reacted! I personally have no idea how the epi pen works. good for you for at least knowing what should have been done!

so many ydis, when op has probably never used an epi pen before

I can understand how that could happen, because the needle comes out of the opposite end that you take the cover off, so when you take the cover off you expect it to come out that end. however, it's spelt epipen not eppe pen.
