places like stores have lots of applicants so you really don't want to seem wishy washy. you can negotiate pay to am extent though. that might have been the smarter gamble. paint a picture so they think you deserve or need more money and they might agree or meet you. worse comes to worse they will usually give you a few days if you politely ask. however, if you get cocky and act like you've got other maybe better prospects they're going to say OK never mind then, let's hope my other four interviews this week go well! also, if you get cocky, they assume you're going to be a difficult employee to work with and they just don't have the time for that! remember, confidence is key but don't be cocky.

When being interviewed, don't mention other places. Just say "can I take some time to think about it?" Otherwise shit like this happens. You definitely deserve this one for trying to be a big shot
There's a difference between confidence and cockiness, and no matter how confident you are about getting a job, you should never be arrogant in an interview. But on the bright side this can be a humbling experience! Better luck with those other jobs...
