Today, my soon-to-be mother-in-law decided that she is going to be in charge of planning my wedding. All decisions must be approved by her, and anything she doesn't like will be thrown out. She also wants to go on our honeymoon with us to make sure I don't "defile" her son. FML

She started off with criticizing the venue we considered, then went on to criticize my fiancé, and then stated she would under no circumstances help out, but demanded to pick my wedding dress. FML

Today, I'm getting married. A few months ago, I allowed my mother in-law to take care of catering. She begged to be a part of the wedding, so I gave her the caterer's number and order info. It appears that I will not be eating at my own wedding because she decided to order food I'm allergic to. FML

Have a smaller wedding and tell her that you can't accept her help if it's conditional. This isn't the way to start a marriage, with her asserting her authority over your decisions.

you didn't have to let her pay for stuff, but you did, which I can understand with her being the mother of your groom, however, just use your own money if you don't want her to "be in authority". There are couples out there that pay for their own wedding... with their own hard earned money, not their parents. So essentially it is, but isn't your fault. It's 50-50.
