Have a smaller wedding and tell her that you can't accept her help if it's conditional. This isn't the way to start a marriage, with her asserting her authority over your decisions.

Acceptable option: Let her pay for it, let her run the thing. It's her money. Best option: Pay for your own shit. No one owes you a damn thing. Learn how to take care of yourself. If you can't do that, you better smile, say "Thank you," and be willing to lick boot.

I don't think the couple has to bend over and take the MIL's bullshit just because she gave a gift. I think it's implied that she's putting money into it, as are (probably) the other in laws, and yeah, the couple themselves. By no means does that mean that one contributing person gets full control.
