Crime doesn't pay

Today, we got our results for our final grade English paper on which I worked my butt off on, and also which I let my best-friend copy off from. I received a E- and two detentions for plagiarism. My friend got a A-. All she said was, "Oh well, at least you tried your best". FML

How is she supposed to know who copied who? YDI for letting your friend cheat off you.

There are E-? Partially YDI, and FYL.

YDI. Don't let others cheat from you. At my school it's made very clear that if you let someone copy from you, you're at fault just the same. I say FYL a little bit because she got an A- and you got an E- and got the blame, but if you didn't do it in the first place this never would've happened.

In Australia... A = 85 and above B = 70-85 C = 50-70 D = 25-50 E = 0-25 Which means she probably got a 0.

Damn, you only need an 85 for an A? In most classes in America, the A is like 92 or 93+...

Those Australians and their lackadaisical standards. Last year, you needed a 94 to get an A in my county, but this year they reduced it to 93.

85 is not even an A- at my uni, it's a B :( OP: partly FYL but mostly YDI.

Keep in mind that just because the points distribute differently doesn't mean that it is easier or harder to get a given grade -- it might be harder or easier to get those points.

Grading at my high school was: 97+: A+ 93-96: A 90-92: A- 86-89: B+ 83-85: B 80-82: B- 76-69: C+ 73-75: C 70-72: C- 66-69: D+ 63-65: D 60-62: D- 59-: F It's nice to know that F students at my high school would've been C students in Australia.

Not really the case 38. 100 question exam you could miss 15 and still get an A in Australia, but in America you can only get 8 wrong to still get that A. at least we're not letting as many idiots pass. A - 92 - 100 B - 83 - 91 C - 74 - 82 D - 65 - 73 F - 0 - 64 As for the OP, YDI for letting your friend copy off you. No sense complaining, you brought it on yourself.

If y'all think this is confusing, don't move to Denmark! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grade_%28education%29

u only need an 85 for an A? a 70 for a B? i get grounded when i get an 85. 94 and up is a lot of america

no always 66 at my school it's; A 90 -100 B 80 - 89 C 70 - 79 D 60 -69 F 59 - below but the teacher really should have failed them both and at my school they fail all people involved and they get ISD or ASD (In school Detention, After School Detention)

Wow, at my school you need a 95+ to get an A.

All schools are different, and when you get to college/university most of the time professors decide their own cutoffs. I have one professor who says a 92+ is an A and a 90/91 is an A-, and another professor who declares anything above 95 is an A and a 91-94 is an A-. While an 85 equaling an A may seem really lacking in standards to you, perhaps the teachers have much harder grading standards :)

the grading changes from state to state, from school to school. Those are only basic guidelines.

True, an 85+ may be an A here in Australia but it is difficult to get those grades sometimes. The teachers may decide what an A is, also. It depends on what marks other students get. I could get 85% but only have a B because heaps of students received a higher mark.

Talking about grading systems, The Netherlands uses a much easier system: 100 = 10 99-90 = 9 89-80 = 8 79-70 = 7 69-60 = 6 59-50 = 5 49-40 = 4 39-30 = 3 29-20 = 2 19-10 = 1 Between the marks we also use decimals.

If you use decimals... Isn't it really the same exact thing but divided by 10?

Your "best-friend" turned you in for plagiarism. And, by the way, you cheated, too, by letting her copy. You both deserve E-'s. Plus, you deserve spankings! Since you have probably abolished the barbaric practice of corporal punishment in schools in Australia, you'll have to come to my house in Texas for me to give it to you and your friend.

You thought your teacher would read two of the same essays and not notice? YDI.

Your life sucks, but YDI for letting your friend copy off you. It's one thing just to give them a few tips, but they have to come up with their own material.

ydi for sure... you never let a friend copy a paper....

without more information, I'm calling this false. either the friend told your teacher that you stole her paper (not copied, as if she let you copy, it would still be on her head) or you're lying. no teacher on Earth would see two identical papers and give one person an A- and fail the other.

That is not entirely true. My dumbass chemistry teacher last year gave one of my friends a 75 on a worksheet. The person she did it with, and had the exact same answers, got a 100. Some teachers play favorites or use the 'stair method.'

YDI for letting your mate copy yeah, but you should definitely bring her down with. Talk to the teacher, you probs won't get off your punishment but you'll get some closure seeing that bitch rot in detention with you.

I can't understand why you would let your so-called best friend copy your work. YDI. I hope you learned a lesson.

I had this happen to my in high school too. My friend needed help writing her paper so I told her what mine was about. She got an A, I got a B.
