Cut the crap

Today, as usual, I got to my internship early, did everything my bosses asked. At the end of the day, I was fired after 3 weeks of working unpaid overtime because they found an applicant with more experience for the job I applied to and they wanted to cut costs. FML

You were working for free! Is the new guy playing them to work there? If not, they could've offered you the job at reduced pay. In a way good for you to not be working with idiots.. Best of luck with the job hunt mate.

Right, rule one of internships is "Never take one that doesn't pay." Rule two of internships (or any hourly-pay job really) is "Never work more hours than they pay you for." If you're in a salaried job, you work until the work is done, regardless of how long it takes you, and then you don't get to complain about "not being paid overtime" because you weren't eligible for overtime in the first place.

This is completely illegal. You can't hire an intern without 100% offering them a job. I would consider taking them to court. Unless they have a reason to fire you (which it doesn't seem so) they cannot. Not only are they breaking the law through that, but also as having an unpaid intern without guarantee of job. Go. To. Court. Or at least talk to their HR.
