Today, I found out my ex-boyfriend is still obsessed with me. Apparently he's named his dog after me and talks to her like she's a real person. FML

Err, dogs are real people? They aren't humans, but they are equally as worthy beings? I think you meant like she was a real human, but maybe try to word it differently next time?

"People" implies human. A dog is not a person, a dog is a dog. Not that I think dogs aren't as "worthy" as humans (I like most dogs more than I like most people) but OP was right in not calling the dog a person.
