Don't take medical advice from teachers

Today, I got a splinter in my shop class. The teacher dug at it with tweezers for a while, then told me that my best bet would be to wait until the wound got infected and formed a bunch of pus around the splinter to force it out. It's in my dominant hand's palm. FML

You have two choices here. You could either listen to your teacher, or go see a qualified doctor.

Cut your whole hand off OP. Trust me, I'm a doctor.

Schools have nurses for a reason

just put a dab a glue on it, let it dry, then peel the glue off, and the splinter should come out with it

For the record, that's white/craft glue, not superglue

baking soda and water, make a paste, take a needle and open the skin where it's at put the paste on it and it should come out

Get someone to gently use a sharp razor blade, get it right under the splinter, press your thumb on top of the splinter so it between thumb and blade, and pull quickly. Should come out easily.

Time to break out the Stanley knife! Or you could use splinter probes? I use either of those to get splinters out. Or you could do as your teacher said I guess?

who says it's a wood splinter? I got a metal splinter in my hand once and it hurt like hell! I had wait 10 hours for my husband to come home and remove it for me.

mixed up soap and water under a plaster for a while also works a treat.

If it's not really causing a problem you can leave it for a bit, it'll likely come out on it's own. But if you want it out sooner or it's not coming out on it's own Google has better solutions. There's like something with baking soda you can try, I forget what but you can find it on google. Definitely don't wait for an infection though, your teacher is an idiot. It could possibly work, but infections can be dangerous.
