Don't take medical advice from teachers

Today, I got a splinter in my shop class. The teacher dug at it with tweezers for a while, then told me that my best bet would be to wait until the wound got infected and formed a bunch of pus around the splinter to force it out. It's in my dominant hand's palm. FML

You have two choices here. You could either listen to your teacher, or go see a qualified doctor.

Cut your whole hand off OP. Trust me, I'm a doctor.

Cut it out with a knife. That's what I'd do

You can make a paste of water and baking soda, it'll cause the splinter to come out. Sorry about that!

At least he didn't do what my dad does. He will use a needle or a knife and try and dig it out enough to grab on with the tweezers. Although I think your teacher's method MIGHT hurt more. So, sorry about that bit.

Baking soda mixed with a little bit of water on a bandaid. Just put it on the area and let it go. It'll suck that thing right out after a bit. I do this for my kids every time they get a splinter. Way less painful than digging at it.

Splinters are not that hard to remove. And you do not need tweezers for that. Only a small needle and some alcohol to disinfect it.

clean it up, if its really stuck in there obviously its best to have it removed - But if you have access to a chemists they do a things called magnesium sulphate paste which is used to draw out splinters and objects that get caught under the skin and can sometimes work out cheaper than a doctor depending on where you live :)

Mix baking soda and water to a paste and put it over the splinter it should pop out

At first, I read splinter as sphincter. That made this sound REALLY weird lol.

Jeezus ******' Christ, your teacher is an imbecile! Anyway.. Just keep it clean, and the skin will gradually force it out :) Our body's largest organ takes care of most things on it's own, as long as it doesn't get infected. Be well!
