I'm a caregiver, not a doctor. However, I would recommend asking your doctor for percocet, 5 or 10mg depending on your pain level. They are about the same, but tend to work longer. I have used them, and a few people I know use them, they work well, and should be covered by any insurance plan. Hope this helps.
Take the pills so you aren't in pain
Ask about different medication- and make sure to emphasize the fact it is keeping you awake. DON'T make any suggestions, just ask if there is something else for treating the same pain level that you can switch to in order to avoid health issues from the insomnia the current medication is causing. Asking for a certain medication, especially by brand name, can get you pegged as "drug seeking" in a heartbeat in today's medical climate.
Well on a positive note, you can be super productive In 24 waking hours!
I get the same thing. It's actually not too uncommon for people with ADD to get hyper on opioids. My wife loved it, the first couple days after my hand surgery I cleaned the hell outta the house. After a couple days though the cool side effect stopped working and I don't get hyper anymore with hydrocodone. Other cool thing is I can take cough syrup with codine while working since it doesn't make me drowsy. Hopefully either the side effects will mellow out or you can call your doctor and have them prescribe a non opioid pain medication. Personally I think it's a kick ass side effect since the normal effect is it makes you drowsy.
You should talk to your doctor about the side effects. S/he might be able to prescribe you another pain medication. If not, you should also know that hydrocodone causes constipation. Another shitty after-effect of surgery. (I've had a couple of minor procedures in the last five years; both times I had zero appetite for days afterwards.) Get well soon!

Have you tried turning yourself off and back on?
Talk to your doctor and see if there is an alternative medication. Normally there are several different types of medicine in case of rare side effects like yours.
