Drunk with power

Today, I finished my classwork and my homework early. Since we weren't allowed to leave the room, I decided to draw. My teacher noticed and gave me detention for "goofing off" when I should be doing my work. When I told the teacher I was already done, they gave me a second detention for "attempting to defy them". ...somethings never change. a teacher in the classroom is like Joesph Stalin. if you stand up to him/her, you will disappear.

reminds me of my math teacher. my math teacher hates my friend that sits next to me in math class and when we where choosing or classes for next year my friend wanted to double up in math and the teacher was like "you get good grades and all but are u sure u can handle two math classes" an the way she says it makes her sound like a bitch.

If this was English class, you probably should have been reviewing your work.

I wish I'd stood up to stupid crap like this more when I was at school. If you just point out that it is unfair and flat out refuse to go then, they can give you more detention. You can refuse to cooperate with that too but, all they can really do is ask you to go to detention more. Schools can only insist that you do what they tell you or, expel you. Ultimately if a generally well behaved kid refuses to cooperate with them then there is very little they can do. They can hardly expel you for drawing. In the end, they'll have to give in. The more punishments they try to hand out, the worse it will look for them. The only power teachers have over kids in the class room is their verbal authority. They can't make anyone do what they want, just try to make them feel like they have no choice. Of course, this is why they won't back down easily - it undermines their authority.

"Simply because it's colloquially used doesn't make it grammatically correct." No, that doesn't make it *standard.* If it's colloquially used, then by definition it's grammatically correct. Oh, and dictionaries can be wrong.
