Eff off

Today, I work 732 miles away from my wife and three children, and I rarely get to go home. After giving up many hours of family time to work on my last home visit, I returned to work only to have my boss accuse me of stealing time, dock me 50 hours, and "review" my employment for termination. FML

I hope you talk to your boss about this. It's really unfair to you, OP

jeez. maybe he stole those hours and you happen to be the scapegoat? I dunno either way he's a prick. good luck OP

I'm in Texas too. You have a damn big grievance case. Talk to your local workers legal office. It's free and sponsored by the Texas Workforce Commission. I'm a boss and have never had one of my employees use this but have advised others to do it. Your boss is an ass if he didn't provide proof of abuse of hours. If he has the proof, then you would be the ass. He may NOT dock your hours arbitrarily. Itsp's illegal.

You might also try moving your family closer to where you work. Homeschooling means never having to look for a "good school".

terminate you job and just work closer to your family. your family needs you more than work does ;)

You could also file a complaint with the Department of Labor. I've had to do this, unfortunately, and they resolved my complaint within 6 weeks.

thanks to everyone for the support. I'm the OP, didn't have an account but seeing all the positives of the community i opted to join. after the whole situation I've immediately started looking for work back home. the only reason i work so far away was because it was the only place where i could make the money needed for us to buy a house, mission accomplished but damn it's expensive. at any rate, first company to offer me a job at home will get a great employee and I'll figure the rest out from there. I'm really looking forward to being able to put those place in the rearview mirror as fast as possible.

I'd still talk to a lawyer OP. 50 hours is a lot of money, especially when trying to buy a home. Good luck!

Unless there is evidence they cannot do that. **** that job, though. For every reason you posted.

that's hard op. I know work is important but anything that takes you away from your family isn't worth it. hopefully you can find a good job closer to home and more 'family time friendly'.

Definitely time to find a new job, closer to home. If he fires you, fight back. If he doesn't, you should report him to HR and hand in your notice. Get a job closer to your family, they'll thank you for it.
