False hope

By Anonymous - This FML is from back in 2010 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, after suggesting to my daughter for a while that she should try out for a cheerleading team to become more confident, she went to tryouts. She didn't make the team and she's spent the last six hours in her room crying. FML

Now is she upset you pushed her into something she didn't want to do or because she didn't get something you convinced her she could do? Why do parents suggest really specific things? I mean, fair enough suggest stuff for her to get into, but give her a few options and let her pick one she wants to do.

Sorry but that's YDI for convincing her to try out for the team in the first place.

Keyword *suggesting (not convincing or forcing)! It sounds to me like OPs kid does like cheerleading, but wasn't confident enough in herself. I think it is a parent's job to encourage their children to do great things! So I'd say FML on this one; sorry OP, better luck next time.

That's more like your daughter's FML: "Today, my mom was harassing me to go to cheerleading tryouts, even though I had no interest in it. I went anyway. I didn't make the team. FML"

cheerleading tryouts: where self esteems go to die

Cheerleaders are evil and never ever push your child to aply for the cheerleading team

suggest marching band next time ☺️

Poor kid. What about you put her in local gymnastics classes or dance? Give her a chance to work out and improve while broadening her circles?

Let me get this straight - to help your daughter feel more confident, you tell her to try out for a group comprised of a clique of queen bees who are notorious for looking down on everyone who isn't in their circle of friends and who get off on insulting others they think are inferior to them? I can't imagine why your idea didn't work.
