Today, I told my mom I was going hiking with a couple of friends and wouldn't be back for four or more hours. Not even two hours later, she called the cops and reported us as missing. She didn't realize that we wouldn't have service up the canyon so we could call her back. FML

Today, I went on a hike with friends, but as I'm the worst outdoorsperson because I rarely venture outside of the city, I ended up getting lost in some woods after straying from our group. I ended up having to call 911 to be rescued. My friends will absolutely not let me live this ordeal down. FML

Today, I lost my phone during a hike up Mount Washington. Luckily, it was reported to the office, and they called my wife. Too bad we had already been driving for at least four hours. FML

Today, I went for a hike with the local search and rescue volunteer group that I recently joined. I got lost and spent 5 hours wandering aimlessly. FML

Today, I have no cell phone reception as I am visiting family who lives on the side of a mountain. They told me there was service on top of the mountain, so I hiked up. Only when I got there did I realize I'd left my phone back down at the house. FML

Today, my mom and I made the bad decision to go hiking for some mother-daughter bonding even though we had little experience. My mother tumbled down a mountain named Tumbledown and I couldn't even enjoy the irony because I had to half carry her all the way back to the car. FML

Today, my mum and I decided to go on a hike. Beforehand we left my car at the end of the trail and took my mums car to the beginning. After 4 hours we arrived at my car. I had left my keys in mums car. It was a long walk back. FML

Today, even though I was very clear before I went on holiday that I was going completely zero contact to de-stress, my mother rang at least twice a day. When I stopped answering the phone, she found the direct number of the local police station in a foreign country and sent them to find me. FML

Today, my family and I drove to a mall an hour away. We split up, and I went into a store by myself. A little later, I get a call from my brother asking me where I am. They had already left to go home and didn't notice me missing from the car. They were already halfway home. FML

This reminds me of when I first went off to college and I took a 3 hour nap. Woke up to over 30 texts from my mother and police at my door because she reported me missing.

Well, I've got a friend who left home after a fight with his mom, and she never bothered to call him for over a year and a half until she needed some money. All and all, i think you should be grateful for your overprotective mom :) and try talking to her about it if this gets to be problematic.

The problem is, mothers like this can't simply be talked to. It's not really about caring, it's some kind of faulty wiring in their brain, and it's just as unhealthy for everyone as having a mother who doesn't give a shit. How do I know this? My mother is in a mental hospital and will probably never be stable enough to get out, and she sure as hell couldn't get anyone to take her in even if she did get better.

My boyfriends mother is the same. She gave up on contacting the police because she was tired of them telling her she has to wait 48 hrs or something. Instead, she hired a private investigator on his sister because she didn't answer her phone for 45min...and they don't even live at home! So glad my parents are distant lol.
