Maybe she only wishes happy birthday to dead people so she won't have to buy a gift.

I get it, actually. Wishing a dead friend a happy birthday isn't that weird, can be part of the grieving process - especially if it happened this year. I still wish my dad a happy birthday, though we took down his FB profile so I mostly hold a short vigil by myself these days. Ignoring their child's birthday though? That's kind of bad though. Even if you're grieving, the least you can do is wish a happy birthday. Unless the grief really messed her up. We all deal with it differently, so I probably wouldn't be too harsh with her depending on the circumstances.
