Gotcha!

By Anonymous - 08/05/2014 03:57 - United States - State College

Today, while at work as a telemarketer, I called a customer on his home phone. Once I was connected, an automated voice said, "To speak with a customer, please press 1." Confused, I pressed one. I then heard loud laughter followed by, "Oh my god! What a dumbass!" before they hung up. FML

Hey a job's a job. But that's a pretty great prank.

My brother in law used to this to me, lmao. Used to... O_o

Haha so gonna favorite that one! It's hilarious! Dw though I'd totally do the same thing. Not the customer but what you did. Guess I'm stupid too

Shit now i feel bad that was my cousins they were prank calling people Crappppp

Good thing i live in a country where telemerketing isnt allowed. YDI for being a telemarketer though.

You got this off a vine didn't you? I saw the vine where someone did that. Was that you?

People think it's okay to treat service industry employees like crap...it's not. Sorry!

I agree completely about people in the service industry they do deserve to be treated with respect and kindness, BUT telemarketing isn't a service position its an aggressive solicitation position. Service is where the customers come to you first, sales is where you pursue the customer, telemarketing is the worst example of the latter.

I agree also, but like #87 said, telemarketing is not a service industry. Cold calls are annoying and an invasion of privacy. It is nothing short of harassment. I work as a receptionist for a large company and at least 50% of the calls I get are either telemarketers or debt collectors for people I have never even heard of. What makes it worse is that most are automated and they don't answer when you call back, so you can't even get them to take the business number off of their calling list. What's really fun is when the robot calls a whole bank of numbers, so if the person doesn't answer it or the extension is not currently assigned it gets forwarded to me. This results in me getting 20-30 calls within 15 minutes. Sorry....went off on a tangent for a moment....LOL. I understand that people need jobs and I am sure they serve a purpose, but I can understand why someone would prank them.

I have no problem being polite to human callers, but what about those cold calls that tell YOU to wait on THEM? What pisses me off more than any human telemarketer is when I get a cold call from a telemarketer bot, only to be greeted with a, "Please hold while we connect you to a representative," line and hold music, as if to say that the telemarketer's time is more valuable than mine, so I have to be put on hold to "get the privilege" to talk to them. What's more is that, when you request to be taken off their calling list, some companies instruct their employees to hang up before you can tell them to do so, which protects them from being obligated to take you off the list. It's an absolutely obnoxious and atrocious system.

Like it or not, if I pay GOOD money for a service, then I had better get the BEST damn service for my dollar. Don't like it? Find another profession.

That's what you get for being a telemarketer... And dumb as hell

It's an awful job, but it's still not going to earn any sympathy for someone that spends their days rudely ignoring "do-not-call list" requests and reading from a script.
