Today, I was walking my dogs when I noticed one of them had found something, and was eating it. After my command to "drop it" went unheeded, I took it upon myself to scoop it out of her mouth with my finger. After getting it all over my hand, I realized it was a piece of another dog's poop. FML

Today, I heard my dog chewing on something. I called her over, held out my hand, and told her to drop it. She dropped it into my hand, and I was proud of her. That was until I realized it was cat poop. FML

Chocolate chip

Today, I was eating chocolate chip cookies around the house and saw a chocolate chip on the floor. Not wanting my dog to eat it, given that chocolate is poisonous for dogs, I swiped it up with my finger and put it to my mouth. It was then that I realized it was a stub of my dog's poop. FML

Today, I was picking up after my dog with a poo baggie over my hand, like a mitten. Too bad the bottom ripped open and my bare hand poked through it just as I grabbed a big handful of steaming dog turd. FML

Today, I was walking my dog when, as usual, he did his business in the grass and stepped off to the side. I squatted and reached for the bag when my dog spotted another canine. He lunged forward in excitement and I landed face forward in the feces. FML

Today, I was walking my Aunt's dog to the park and I grabbed a few doggy bags to pick up the poop. As it turns out the bag had a small unoticable hole in it, that grew bigger as I fit my hand through it. I ended up using my hand to pick up the poop and didnt realize it. FML

Today, I was walking dogs for the animal hospital I work for. I accidentally dropped the leash, and in my haste to retrieve it, I frantically grabbed the ground. I got the leash, and a handful of fresh dog poo emitted from the dog I was walking. FML

Today, while walking my dog in the darkness, I bent down to pick up his poop. I screamed like a little girl as his morning turd leapt up my arm, covering my hand and jacket sleeve in soggy poop. My dog had curled one out onto a dozing frog. I skipped breakfast. FML

Today, I was taking my dog for a walk and forgot a bag to pick up his poop, since it's illegal to not pick it up in my town. Right as my dog started to take a dump, a cop car drove by and continued to watch me as I was forced to pick up the poop with my bare hands. FML

Today, I took my dog for a walk. He started crapping on someone's lawn, then I noticed that the owner was outside and giving me a death stare. Not knowing what to do, I picked up the crap with my bare hands. The man started laughing at me. FML

I think many people are missing the point that the OP didn't know what was in the dog's mouth. Part of being a responsible dog owner is ensuring the dog doesn't consume something that could make them ill. Unfortunately, sometimes that means taking something out of their mouths.

I really don't see the big deal here. Wash your hands and the problem is solved- no crap in your dog's stomach and no more shit on your hand. My puppy used to do this all the time but with turkey droppings and I had to stick my hand in her mouth everytime and get the crap out. I would look into getting a higher quality dog food (less fillers = feed less food/will satisfy the dog, more nutrients< less likely to eat crap, and the dog will shit less) and teaching the 'leave it' command to prevent any more shit-related incidents. It's unpleasant but certainly not FML worthy.

actually, dogs eat shit by instinct, not for nutrition. it was required from an evolutionary standpoint because if they didn't, the smell would draw predators to their dens.

That's why I suggested the leave it command. If you set boundaries as to what is acceptable to pick up/ not pick up they won't act on that instinct. Although I do agree that it is instinctual, in some cases it is due to nutrition. More fillers mean the dog ***** out most of the food. Therefore, the shit will smell like- surprise-food.

Easy way to train your dog not to eat something (this worked with my extremely stubborn dog when she was eating rotten pecans in the backyard): 1. Grab two pots/pans. Hold them where your dog can't see them. 2. Throw some of the offending material on the floor. 3. As your dog lunges in to eat it, bang the pans together. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 a few times.

I'm assuming your a cat person? And why is it that you hate dogs? I have 2 dogs, 3 birds, a rat and a cat.(+ 4 other humans) Every animal has a right to live. Every animal rocks. Specially chicken. They taste good. :P Actually, my friend has 2 chickens. But not to eat.
