I've done the same thing, only it was a bottle of clorox. To be fair to me, though, it was really dark.
The bag didn't move or turn to look at you as you moved closer. You should have realized this sooner. Well, unless someone drew a pair of eyes, whiskers, and put cat ears on the bag.
