Honest mistake

Today, I mistook a coworker’s laughter for choking and performed the Heimlich maneuver on them in the break room. They weren’t choking, but now they’re afraid to laugh near me. FML

Buddy, you can’t just jump into the Heimlich like that, you could really hurt someone! The first rule of that kind of rescue maneuver is to be absolutely certain that the patient is actually choking. Please take a certification class to learn how to properly rescue someone from choking.

If they're conscious, you *always* confirm with them first if they're choking and get consent to help them. You could have seriously hurt them. You're lucky you're just being avoided and not getting charged with assault and/or fired from your job.
