I think the hurt here is the part where Mom made it a point to invite everyone BUT her. She could have declined to watch the dog/plants. For all we know, each sister is paying for her own trip, or it was a gift the Mom could afford. For all we know, Husband is just fine only black, Jewish, or hey the same gender as the OP. Who knows!
