Invaded

Today, one of my employees called in after his 8-hour shift, explaining that he had bed bugs at home, found one on his shirt, and thinks they are in the store. I own a mattress shop. They'd spread. FML

Call the exterminator! FYL OP that sucks. Sorry

I'm sure he didn't intentionally bring them into the store. Just call an exterminator, and you should be fine :)

Is there a spray to get rid of them or you can call the exterminators?

Bed bugs are all but impossible to get rid of, according to what I've read. If a single bug or egg is left behind, you have a full infestation all over again, the sprays that kill bugs do nothing for eggs which can get anywhere and survive insane conditions just waiting around dormant for ages, then when the environment is right again, hatch and bugs EVERYWHERE.

To get rid o bed bugs you have to have people come in with huge heat machines for each room and then they heat your house up to 200 degrees. Then u get the leaser of staying away for a day and coming home to a house thats still 130 degrees. Its such a dream come true then you get to fork up $2000 yep yep hura.

54- what the **** are you even trying to say?

Bedbugs are sensitive to heat, he was saying most exterminators no longer use pesticides on bedbugs because of ineffectiveness. Most of them actually bring in heaters to heat up your house including all those little nooks and crannies, killing all stages of bedbugs.

55 - it seems pretty clear to me what he was saying. Try reading the comment next time.

75 - I believe 55 read the comment, and was responding to the awful spelling and grammar.

I've had the reversal. Instead of working in a pet store and bringing fleas from home to work, work brough the fleas home.

At least he called to let you know. But seriously call an exterminator as soon as possible.

**** the exterminator, just put the AC to sub-zero. Cold kills them.

goodluck with that specially if OP lives in arizona! lol

Heat kills them. At least that's what the show "infested" said.

Yeah but it has to be a really high heat, iirc 112f min and maintained for at least a week.

It can be extreme heat or extreme cold, both are hard to maintain, but both kill them. They can also survive up to a year without feasting. I hate those damn things. They are worse than cockroaches.

115 fahrenheit for 2 hours kills all stages, -20 for 30 days does the same, that's why they use heat, cold takes too long.

Took some bravery to confess... Go easy on him.

Those little ******* can be hard to eliminate. Trust me, I've tried. You can try stomping on them, spraying poison, getting other people to do it... It's just really hard to get rid of employees.

#18, Doc, if you live in one of the Orwellian-named "Right to Work" states, it's much easier to get rid of employees than bedbugs. I wouldn't be surprised if some genius in Texas hired his bedbugs to work for him, just so he could dismiss them without cause. Gov. Rick "Three Agencies" Perry would be proud!

Concidering the employee works in a mattress shop, you would think that the employee probably got them from a matress that a customer was lying on. The likelyhood of the employee introducing them to the store is far smaller than any of the hundreds of customers doing so. It's probably worth having the other employees check for bedbugs in their own home.

I live in a right-to-work state. It sucks balls. Being able to be fired for no damn reason without being able to do anything about it isn't a very stable atmosphere. It's worse for people who work retail/fast food here. OP FYL. My friend had a bed bug issue a couple months ago in his room. He paid $400 to get them taken care of, then a couple weeks later he found a bed bug in his daughter's room. He had to pay another $400 to get that room taken care of. Good luck OP. hopefully things work out better for you.

Right to work are the laws that prevent you from being forced to into joining a union. What you mean is that you live in a place with At Will Employment laws. At Will Employment laws are the laws that state that you may choose to quit your job at any time without legal repercussion from the company you left. The flip side to that is said company may also dismiss you from your job for whatever reason without legal repercussion so long as the reason is not a legally protected issue.

TheDrifter 23

They're also often the same states, but "right to work" is the progressive buzz word, as unions have much better lobbyists than individual employees. Unfortunately, buzz words and sloganeering lead to people being uninformed on the real cause of their woes.

Tell your customers, "Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite." If they follow your instructions, everyone will be happy!

Does insurance cover loss due to bed bugs??

I'd say nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
