It's not what you think

Today, I walked past a few of my coworkers sitting outside smoking. As I got a whiff of the smoke, I coughed. They immediately started to defend their habit, and I was told to "mind my own fucking business." I wasn't trying to be rude; I'm actually allergic to cigarette smoke. FML

I get horrible migraines from cigarette smoke. It really shouldn't be allowed outside popular buildings like that.

You should just tell them that smoking kills. Because if they smoke around you, you'll kill them.

I hope you stood up for yourself. F their lives though, they're the morons who are going to end their lives at early ages do to their smoking.

Finally someone else! Everytime I say that I'm allergic to the smoke every smoker I know (including my mother) says that I'm lying and it's not possible! So I end up coughing up a lung (and getting elephant sized migraines) daily thanks to college smokers right outside my dorm entrance.

It's definitely not just you. My allergic reactions to tobacco smoke are life-threatening if not treated quickly. And for the record, it is possible to be allergic to just about anything. There is no set list of allergens. Sure, there are common ones, but they're not exhaustive. Anyone who says, "You can't be allergic to that!" is ignorant of how allergic reactions work.

Smoking is a choice on the part of the smokers. OP was at work and shouldn't have to modify her life because someone else chooses slow suicide.

OP, blame all the self-righteous douchers who harass smokers all the time.

In IL isn't there a law that you can't smoke 100ft in front of a public building?

Last I checked it was 15 feet from the entrance here.

So how do you explain someone dying from lung cancer who has never smoked a day in their life. And don't blame that on second-hand smoke. Try as they (you) might, there has never been a definitive connection to smoking and lung cancer. It's all speculation. If you don't believe that, you can view for yourself on the american heart associations FAQ pages. I'm not saying smoking is healthy, but neither can anyone say that smoking causes lung cancer, with absolute certainty.

honestly the easiest way to quit smoking is the way my mom did. she got deathly allergic to it. shes not smoked for 27 yrs and is still feeling backlash for her health, rotting teeth and 3 open heart surgeries. FYL OP and i hope this problem gets solved!

Hmm, to all of you people saying it benefits no one to smoke you clearly don't understand much. Smokers are ideal citizens in terms of economic growth. If everyone smoked people will be spending alot of money on highly taxed goods and die earlier (normally missing out on pensions)

I'm also severely allergic to cigarette smoke. It really sucks
