Living my best life

By Anonymous - This FML is from back in 2009 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, my electricity went out. The electric company said it was because the bill was at least 4 months overdue. Apparently, I have been paying for my roommate to go out and party for weeks. FML

Completely your fault. You should always be checking up on your bill payments to make sure they've been taken care of. And every month when you get the bill it will show if you payed last month or not. YDI

Rahhal approves of the above Pedobear.

#20, that made my day. *Waves to Pedobear*

I have to agree with you. It is awful for this to happen, but totally naive to let your room mate (whether you know them well or not) just take the money and never check up on it whether it's a billing statement confirmation or anything. Never trust anyone with your money and not check up on it! If it was me I would be tempted to take all of their belongings and pile them up on the curb, hopefully it'll be snowing :). Take them to civil court!

Those first two replies to #1 just made my day a little brighter. XD Randomness is terrific.

the electricity could be in the roommate's name, which means that she wouldn't have access to her billing statements.

How much is your electric bill? Because most apt bills aren't more then 100$

you really shouldn't have trusted him. didnt you read enough fml about stuff like this. you could have paid it your self and saved your self all the trouble. but still fyl

YDI for not being smart enough to write checks!!!

checks are lame, and some people dont have a checking account... tho there are things called money orders...

should have gone partying with him :/

When I lived with some people in college, they turned it off on us after just 1 month. You think the company would have given you a warning after the first missed payment letting you know that power is about to go off. In a way, the OP has a responsibility to make sure these bills get paid, regardless how she decides to do it. In this case, the OP deserves this result and all the fees to restore power afterward.

This happened to one of my ex's. He couldn't check or even add money to the bloody account since it was in his roommate's name, who was a total jackass and used the money for other things, like booze and cigarettes. Checks, cash, it didn't matter since his roommate was the mediator. The only fault of the OP is his magnetism for shitty friends.

Wow. Some room-mates truly deserve to be slapped. Hard. Repeatedly.

That's unfortunate. Your roomate sucks. FYL.
