Looking for love in Alderaan places

By not4geeks - This FML is from back in 2009 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I went out on a first date with a cute guy. Turns out we won't be going on a date again because I didn't know the difference between "Star Wars" and "Star Trek." FML

How do you not know the difference? YDI. I'm a girl, and I'd dump you for that. It's proof positive that your interests clash.

Your own damn fault, how can you not know??

Wtf. Even if you've never seen Star Wars or Star Trek, they're both such a huge part of pop-culture that you should at least be able to tell which is which. Please tell me that you know the difference between King Kong and Godzilla... or Batman and Spiderman... or Leno and Letterman... or Russel Peters and Mitch Hedberg... same genre, completely different things.

#164 Do you collect Walk to Remember merch ? Do you play Lego Walk to Remember ? Do you go to Walk to Remember conventions ? Do you dress as characters from Walk to Remember ? There's a difference between something your a fan of, and something you're part of a fandom of. It borders on obsession. He probably wants someone to share that with.

For all those saying the guy's stupid for dumping her for not knowing the difference: He didn't dump her, he won't go on a second date, there's a difference. The point of a date is to get to know someone to see if you have interests in common. They obviously didn't so no second date. What's the big ******* deal? Well she looked stupid to him for one night, but besides that...

...You seriously don't know the difference? I don't consider myself a fan of either (never even watched Star Trek once), but that's just common knowledge.

OMG soame thing here!!! I was just seeing him last night and after the movie I accidentally said this was the only STAR WARS movie I ever saw... And he was like... Its Staer Trek... Duuh... And I thought I was the only one Yeah, FYL and mine too....

dude, i've never seen either of those and i know the difference but i guess if you don't really follow pop culture

Everyone needs to stop their bitching, because we don't actually know what she's basing the word difference on.

No offense, but honestly, how can you not know the difference? Although most people may not be interested in the two, I'm sure everyone could tell the difference.

I'm a little confused as to how people can call it dumping when it is only the first date. I always thought it took.... well you know.... a RELATIONSHIP! for it to be considered dumping..... kinda creepy that many posters consider the first date a relationship but.... w/e..... I would just consider not getting a second date a rejection really. But w/e... the guy is a dork, the guy is a prick, jerk, etc., etc. because the OP is a one of a kind special snowflake and the guy will never find another person like her (well it is unlikely to find someone who doesn't know the difference note: #89 and 65 are retarded; anyone who HASN'T been under a rock for the past 30-60(IIRC Star trek was 1940's) years would know the difference.... and not a trekkie but no Star Trek does NOT have lightsabers. Please don't procreate.) And incidentally why is everyone acting like that is the only reason? I don't doubt that there are people that stupid out there.... but I also know that people tend to embellish (and by embellish I mean straight out lie) about relationships and things to make them seem better or to make the other side look like the guilty party. For all we know the Trek-Wars thing could have turned out to be just one of the many idiotic things she said during the date. She could also look like a man, have horrible manners, etc. Example: See previous FML where the woman tried to rag on the guy for calling her immature because he liked Pokemon and Call of Duty.
