You can't max out a debit card, genius. You can max out a CREDIT card, but a debit card is money you actually have, therefore it doesn't allow you to spend more than the existing amount.
It's possible to spend more than you have in your account by overdrafting (writing a check or using a debit card when there isn't enough in your account). Two ways this can happen 1. money is transferred from your savings to checking, sometimes with a small fee for the service to cover the charge. 2. Money from the checking account is taken out up to the point where the checking is empty. At this point, the financial institution pays the bill but charges a fee for spending more than is actually there. There's usually somewhere around a $30 fee for each overdraft item, but the limit on how much you can overdraft can easily run a couple hundred dollars. At least, that's how most accounts are set up.
Erincolleen, you're obviously an idiot. Haven't you seen that many people pointed out that she is using the term "maxed out" to refer to the fact that her bank account has been drained? I use my debit card to buy things online all the time, and I do have the option of having it send to the billing address, which it automatically pulls from my card number. We live in a highly technological age, people, and the ones who are saying this is fake and that this could never happen are 12 year olds who have never had a debit card, or even a bank account.
Heehee! This one made my day - seriously. (:
