Need a bib?

Today, I went to a café and got some soup. When I was done, a nice waiter came over and offered to take my mostly empty soup bowl. I quickly ate the last of it, looked up smiling and said, "Thanks!" The soup dribbled out of my mouth and onto his hand. FML

Did he offer you a tip? Such as letting you know that you should consider wearing a bib perhaps.

HAHAHAHAHA oh god, that's gotta be a social low point.

Should of just told him you wanted to finish it, he would have come back or a bus boy after you left would have cleaned it, but a wash of the hands it's gone so not too big of a deal

Could have been his face so maybe he'll see the humor in it lol. If not leave a super nice tip!

I'm curious, is that normal behavior for waiting staff in the US? I've been told that you usually leave quite a bit quicker (as in, you usually don't linger after you've paid) but here, it would be considered to be incredibly rude for a waiter to try to take a dish that someone's not finished eating yet.

usually, they ask first before just taking it. or, you put your napkin on it so they know.

Long as it looks empty or finished with it, yeah; it is normal. The higher class restaurant the more sophisticated the waiters/waitresses.

Leave a generous tip and an apologetic letter. I'm sure the money will make up for a little spit.
