Maybe the company is just a front for an illegal human trafficking organization.
I have no idea why I laughed so hard at this.
In situations like this I feel like calling the management and telling them their website is very unhelpful for customers and possible recruits like yourself and then asking them directly about the vacancy. I could be mistaken however.
Maybe they haven't even had a web designer since the 90s...
Problems with big companies is that they ignore the little things ..

Sounds like you may be dodging a bullet; doesn't sound like a great place to work if that's HR.
I'm sorry OP, there's no excuse for rudeness. While that might be a position for which you are excellently suited, do you want to become part of that company's culture? I think you dodged a bullet.
