Nice girl

Today, at the grocery store, an elderly woman asked for help with some tea. I lent her a hand, spending a good twenty minutes reading different labels out loud until she found one she liked. After she was done, she handed me a pamphlet and said, "You're a nice girl. I hope you don't go to hell." FML

She was just looking out for you OP! At least she didn't call you ugly like most FML old people would.

better than the old ladies that damn you to hell and was nice to just give you a pamphlet rather than try to push her beliefs on you.

honey, you let it in from one ear and let it out immediately from the other! I think your a really sweet person to help her out, who ever she was! But don't let this put you off from helping strangers. One helps because one helps, not because one feels that the other is worthy of assistance. It really does help to have thick skin. *hugs*

Umm the lady didn't really insult her in anyway.

As someone who is not Christian and never will be, I would be extremely insulted by someone trying to push their religious beliefs on me.

I agree with 42. In no way did she insult her. In no way did she push her beliefs on her. She gave her a pamphlet, not a lecture. I'm a Christian and I have friends who are atheist. I don't push my beliefs on them. She was just being nice.

She was being completely tactless, not nice. Although, she meant well.

Being held a pamphlet and told "I hope you don't go to hell." is more or less the same as "Join my religion or you're going to hell." So yes it was an attempt to convert their faith.

As an atheist I probably would've been mildly annoyed. Maybe not outright offended, but it would rub me the wrong way.

Well I don't think she would mean to be offensive, just trying to be nice in a Christian way. I'm not trying to be preachy here, but Christians will always want to convert you. Some are more persistent and annoying than others. I for one will ask a friend their religious views. If they differ we just have a conversation over it and we're perfectly fine. Not trying to annoy them, just express my views in a nonconflicting way, the same way I think she was trying to do.

I heard heavens awesome...so I too hope you don't go to hell :)

What if heaven was horrible and hell was epic? I mean no one came back to life to tell if heaven was truly awesome..... Idk I got bored and thought shit up

You need all the good wishes you can get. After pissing away 20 minutes to sell a $5 box of tea, I'm sure your manager is damning you to Hell!

Actually I was just doing some shopping myself. xD

#105 so you weren't working there? How kind of you

Obviously she wasn't working, but really the manager wouldn't mind an employee 'wasting time' like that if it led to a positive review on the store called in to corporate. Managers are sometimes required to get a certain amount of those in a period of time, but people love to complain and no one likes to praise. As bitchy as old people can be, they are also the ones most likely to call a number and give positive feedback on a store.

Maybe she is the grim reaper and you're not to far down her list.

When you're working with elderly, you learn these kind of things they tell you are really good things. She obviously cares about you :D

"Good news: I won't! There's no such place!"

I like to say, if I don't have to spend eternity with the likes of [insert names of people who spread hate in the name of religion], I guess I won't be in hell. Or you could tell her that you didn't have a trip to Michigan planned anytime soon.

That's awesome, LOL...sorry OP!!!

That's when you say to them, "Well if I do, I'll be sure to stop by and say hello to you!"

I mean did you expect anything in return? The comment was a lil over the top but some people are that way
