Theres nothing wrong with what your boyfriend said, op. It means he likes you for who you are and that your a great person. Sure, it kinda hurts not to be told your beautiful on the outside, but at the end of the day, wouldn't you like to learn that your boyfriend chose you for you and not your body?

I highly doubt he even meant to imply she wasn't beautiful. Sounds to me like he meant to say "ONLY beautiful on the outside" and she took it the wrong way. Some people just aren't great at expressing exactly what they mean, especially about emotional things. Guys aren't encouraged to get a lot of practice doing that in modern society.

People take things the wrong way too often. Although it is wise to take note of the situation before opening your mouth. Telling a girl you want to see more of her inner beauty while holding a knife is a definate no-no.
