Not a geography major

Today, I had an interview for a college. The college is in Rhode Island. I live on the West coast. When I asked the interviewer if they got to the mainland by boat or by some other form of transportation, he told me Rhode Island is not an island. FML

YDI, I'm from Rhode Island and I'm used to being confused with Long Island, but never ever has anyone asked me how to get there. I could understand if you were inquiring about Block Island, which is a part of Rhode Island and yes you have to take a boat there, but since there's no colleges there, obviously that wouldn't work. FYI, Rhode Island was named after the Greek island of Rhodes. Guaranteed you are going to Brown or JWU, because that's the only reason why West Coast people who have never been here come here. To cook, be in business, or some science major. Without fail. What makes even funnier is when I get you idiots that move here to school, then cross over the border into the supermarket I work at in Massachusetts, and tell me you came "all the way from Providence", when it's less than a 15 min drive from those schools to Seekonk MA. What's your next question, "Where's your 24 hr Walmart?" because I hate to tell you, there are none nearby, unless you want to take quite a drive. LOL. And you want to know why people who live in other countries hate us, because of idiots like you that make us look dumb.

I'm from Rhode Island also, and sportygal85 is right. btw.. are you sure you're even smart enough to go to college?

If YOU'RE attempting to insinuate that everyone from California is as woefully ignorant as the OP, at least get YOUR grammar right.

wow wut kinda douchebag doesn't know that rhode island is a frikin state. epic failure for you. completly your fault.

this is unfortunate, op. probably wise to do a little research next time on the state you're considering living in for the next 4 years, and on the history of the school you would like to earn your degree at. but hey, chill out, people that think all americans are ignorant. while i totally agree that many are, you also have to remember that sometimes our states are as big as your country, which means that remembering our geography is the same as remembering your geography times fifty. plus, we learn about other major world powers, but it's really quite reasonable that we don't learn about every small country. there's only so much you can fit into an education. this is not to say we -shouldn't- try to educate ourselves about other countries, their geographies, histories, and cultures, but simply that not knowing doesn't necessarily make us ignorant. there's a big difference between choosing not to know and simply not having learned yet.

You make a very valid argument, good point of view! But about the history, America is one of the newer countries, so there's so much less history to learn compared to other countries.
