By madmomma - This FML is from back in 2012 but it's good stuff - United States - Veneta

Today, my mom got a new puppy and named her Olivia. Which would be fine, if that wasn't the name I had been planning to give my baby, who's due in 3 weeks. Thanks mom. FML

I guess you should name your daughter Spot so that there's no confusion.

Now when people call your dog your daughter will come too.

Where does it say shes a milf? For all you know, she could be chunky with facial hair.

If your mother knew you were naming your baby that, what she did was sort of bitchy.. That was lame.. Okay I'm done.

I have a few names 1. erica 2. jayne or Jane 3. Christina 4. Kristy 5. Stella 6. Tristan 7. Elizabeth 8. Samantha 9. LaVerne 10. Raegan

No wonder why most of the new generation have ugly names, its because people like this person, who invented names that doesn't sound like an actual name.

Not really. LaVerne and Raegan are both girl names more common in the southeastern portion of the United States. LaVerne is an older name, more likely to be someone's grandmother or great aunt. It's not used much anymore.

The Hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne.

I was more concerned about Tristan... I've NEVER heard of a female Tristan. Which is not to say there couldn't or shouldn't be one, but to me it will always sound more like a guys name.

110 You, my friend, are amazing. xD

It may come as a surprise to you but your child won't have a unique name. It may in fact be the same name that other people have called pets. If this is a problem for you then you may need to name it something stupid like madmomma... I don't think anyone really cares that two living things share a common name...

Why would she be surprised? She didn't pick that name because she thought it was unique and no one else would have it - she picked it because she liked it! She called herself madmomma because she is angry and a soon to be mother - just clarifying for you, since obviously don't understand! And she's angry because her mom took the name she was planning on using for her child. It's not like she thought "Hey! No one else in the freaking world has this name and no one's ever going to be named Olivia - so why not use it?". Christ, what are you twelve?

It may come as a surprise to you but people would care if their daughter and the dog they will be visiting a lot have the same name. It would be just awkward. Imagine the daughter calling her own name to the dog! If this is a problem to you, then you may need to deal with it. (:

42, I'm going to assume you were being facetious in your response, not thinking I genuinely assumed she thought her name was unique. In case the point eluded you a little here, I'll put it in plain english...She can still use the name and absolutely nothing will happen. The child won't grow up resenting her mother because the dog has the same name as her - in fact she will probably think its pretty awesome. Nobody is going to think less of the name because a dog has also been called Olivia, and simply stating "my mother liked the name so much she wanted to call the dog Olivia too" won't be that hard. On a scale from 1 to 10 on how messed up this is I'd put it somewhere like 0. I get it, it's an amusing story, something you'd tell people and they might get a laugh out of but it is not in any way shape or form a big deal.

73, What people? Why? How would it be awkward at all? And imagine when she goes to school and calls other people Olivia too! How is it you can see an issue here without somehow thinking the child has ownership of the name? You concede it's not necessarily a unique name, many other people and animals alive and dead have the same name, so how is it weird that she encounters one within her own family? It's amusing, period. And your last point just doesn't make sense.

She is such a selfish bitch, some people are just shameless!!!

I don't see whats the big deal here. Judy go with the original plan! Olivia us a beautiful name. Or you cooould change it up into something more unique. Er like: Oliviniqua. Okay that was lame, dammit.

littlemsweirdo 12

Oh my god. Stupid autocorrect. *what's *just not Judy *is . Where the hell did Judy come from?

Your mom is mean, but you shouldn't let that stop you from naming your daughter olivia because its a pretty name. Maybe you can talk her into just calling her puppy "O".

Make sure your mom stays outside the delivery room when the time comes, tit for tat ;)
