*sigh* welcome to America...
I'm German. I'm shocked you've been treated that way. You should move to Texas. Texas is a much better state.
Jeg kender godt følelsen !
I'm so sorry. This reflects wonderfully on our wonderful, educated country of mine. .... :/
Seriously: besides ignorance, one of the reasons why you hear this type of bullshit from Americans so much may be that they will easily chat with outsiders, while Japanese or German people, for instance, prefer to keep their distance and not go beyond polite conversation with foreign visitors.
I can't help but think of the first "sentence" I learned in Danish... Rød grød med fløde !
I'm an American, and when I went to Canada everyone made fun of the way I talked. So sorry, your country's not perfect either.
I'm gonna guess you're in one of the many red neck towns in Washington. Head to Seattle. The people are smart there.

Laugh at their ignorance. Or agree with their Nazi joke and let them know they could be next.
I guess, when you moved to America, you did Nazi that coming.
