"Hmm I have to win, so I'll just scar my son for the rest of his life!". The daddy of the year will be mailed to your house shortly.
I'm sure he loves you! He's probably just really competitive- I know when I play games or sports I say things I don't really mean. I Just sometimes get caught up in the moment.
oh my! my mother's like that with basketball, OP. I feel your pain :(
All joking aside and snide comments as well I would tell your dad (when he's calm and not being competitive) that what he says is extremely hurtful and way out of line to say. Parents generally take those conversations seriously. He probably doesn't realize he's being over zealous.... Hopefully
And if that doesn't work.... Try even harder to really whoop his ass! Then maybe he'll say you r great offspring instead of an accident! Hahaha
Oi! If he resorted to cheap shots to win, you could've used some of your own... like yeah mom told me as much, but don't worry you were not involved in that one.
You're a rugby player? You shouldn't miss a play.

This is where you play the "MOOOOOOOM!!!" card.
That's some good old fashioned tough love. Get back on the field and slam his ass back.
