Today, I was babysitting some kids and helping them make a poster about insects. They couldn't think of any more insects to add so I suggested a spider, and got told to "not be a dumbass, spiders aren't insects they're arachnids." The girl is six. FML

Ah details, details....If they crawl and they're ugly (excluding babies) then they're insects creepy-looking things that you run away from and get someone else to squish for you....(okay including babies). It's not your fault for not knowing that, alot of people don't....we can't all be 6 year old smartasses.

I would have done the same thing, not that I dont know that spiders arnt instects, but they are bugs and bugs are generally insects... it was just a brain fart im sure. these people are just jerks!

um...bugs are a subcategory of insect so no spiders are not bugs. Kids these days use pretty crass language, especially when their parents aren't around

Actually, spiders aren't bugs. Bugs are insects in the class of Hemiptera. So insects aren't bugs, bugs are insects.

actually in that context it works because the FML reads, "I got told to 'not be a dumbass...' " if she had said "I got told to 'don't be a dumbass' ", as you recommended, then it would be a fail.

I highly doubt she made up that statement by herself. She probably suggested spiders and her brother or someone she knows said, "Don't be a dumbass, spiders aren't insects. They're arachnids."
