Today, my mother-in-law, who lives with us rent-free, still daily tries to get my wife to divorce me and marry a decent Catholic boy who is actually Irish, unlike me who was born in France, even though we’ve been married 23 years and have three kids together. FML

Hahahaha your mother-in-law is a bad Catholic. If her daughter gets divorced she cannot get married again in church.

I'm not surprised you've tolerated this abuse and aggression. In French, you refer to your in-laws as your "beautiful mother" and your "handsome father." The propaganda has eaten your brain! You need to kick out that parasite and put up an impenetrable Maginot line to keep her out. No, wait, that didn't work so well.

Well, if she's northern Irish, you should move anywhere within Schengen and laugh at her in Brexit. Your wife and kids would easily get a visa (assuming you still hold your French citizenship, and you could probably get it easily if you don't have it yet). Or tell her it's precisely because you're cheese-munching, wine-guzzling godless heathen is precisely what your wife likes about you.

Calling someone beautiful or handsome doesn’t make you appreciate that person. And the Maginot line did do its job: the Nazis didn’t try to pass through it.

It does subliminally make you look at someone differently. And I have one occupation to say the Maginot line wasn't successful.

I don’t understand relationships like this. I would never make my fiancé live with my mom if she acted like that. If my mom couldn’t accept him she wouldn’t be a part of my life or at least a very small part.

kick her to the curb, she's toxic to your relationship.
