Stop talking now!

Today, I went over to my girlfriend's house for dinner. Her parents seemed upset, so I tried to lighten the mood by saying, "Hey, at least the weekend is coming up and you guys won't have to go to work." Apparently, they were upset because they both got laid off from their jobs today. FML

damn that sucks :( but how were you supposed to have known?

I love that a lot of FML's seem to happen because couples don't tell each other anything. If I was the girlfriend I would've given my boyfriend a heads up.

It's not your fault so dont worry about it as long as u apologized it'll be fine

Haha, that's some strange counting you're using.

I could totally understand being upset about it, and yeah don't feel bad. unless of course your significant other told you and you said that to be a dick, but i'm sure you didn't. i know that if i was in the parent's position i'd understand, and probably appreciate their child not telling the whole world their family problems.

Bad timing, not your fault. But hey good guess they won't have to work.

Sucks but how the hell were u supposed to know??!!

Even though you didn't know, that still must have sounded so bad. Fyl.

Ah, don't worry about it. Obviously it's hard not to feel bad, but how would you have known? I'm sure if they're really mature people they wont make a big deal of it.

It's because Obama's damn stimulus bill. Why doesn't he realize he's making our economy worse by bailing everyone out and giving everyone money? He thinks it'll help the American people but it's just pulling money out of our pockets because all the $700,000,000,000 is from tax payer money! I would like to see the outcome of the election if he wasn't an African American.

ha i can't wait to see what happens if that damn government health care bill passes. people really don't realize how good our health care system really is. i think he created the problem, i never heard ANYONE complain about our health care system until he started running for presidency, compare it to canada's, they have to wait for a long ass time to get "EMERGENCY" procedures done! my honest opinion is he's sneaky dictator that is trying to have the government overtake everything! I'm seriously considering moving out of the country! they say love it or leave it, with the way things are going with that idiot i want to leave it. i think he would have never gotten elected if he wasn't a black man, honestly? would anyone of voted for him if he was white? NOOO! if he was white hillary would have probably been the democratic canidate instead of him. i think people we're just trying to make America look like a progressive country when he was elected. and i know people are going to be bitching because i said something about him being black, hell no I'm not a racist, I'm glad in this country he had the opportunity to run, hell if mccain was black i would have still wanted him to win, my opinion of him isn't based on his race, but my opinion of this country's choice is that i believe he was elected because of his race.

AMEN. You took the words right out of my mouth. On a side note, I'm a loser. I've replied to every comment on this one FML that I found interesting.

I not basing this on his race at all. I'm saying I dissagree with his policies because he's digging us deeper into trouble. I also just didn't like the way he was elected. All the black people at my high school election day were all wearing Obama shirts and chanting his name and I felt like the only reason was because he was black. I don't think they could care less about what his policies were, I think they were just excited about having a black president. I know it was a big day in our history but that's not how a president should be elected.

haha it wasn't too bad at school, but i went to a 99% white school up untill about 4 days before election, but like where i worked though (mcdonalds which was 99% black or people that thought they were black *their in the same category in my book) like i had guys coming in and ordering and the whole way to the register they we're singing the obama song and wearing their shirts, but a good thing about around here is that a good bit of the people that voted for him are realizing their mistake, a little too late i might add. but hopefully they remember that its a mistake so we can impeach him or not re-elect him again.

Oh, and you are an ass because there is no such thing as acting black. If you talked to me or my family you probably wouldn't consider me to be "black". So stop being racist because by saying someone is acting black you are being EXTREMLY racist.

Paige_Nicole10 , You never heard anyone complain about our healthcare system? I'm guessing you do not know any of the one in seven americans who CAN'T afford healthcare. We have the most expensive healthcare system in the world, and 50% of the people who go into bankruptcy do so because of medical bills. Also, not everyone has a job that provides health insurance. Both of my parents have been laid off from their jobs in the past few months (something that does actually relate to this FML) and I can get health insurance from my school but I don't know what my parents are going to do about their health insurance if they are unable to find jobs in this market. BTW if you don't like the public healthcare option, you don't have to use it. It's an OPTION and you can keep paying extremely high rates for health insurance if you want.

I'm a bit late, but, page_nicole, you've never heard anyone complain about our healthcare system? I think it needs some serious changing. 1) you said at least we dont have to wait forever for emergency care? I once sat with my six year old sister, who had known long-term medical conditions, in teh emergency room waiting area for three hours while she passed in and out of consiousness with a fever of 104.3 (approx) and was vomiting everywhere. I'd say thats one hell of a long wait considering the situation. 2) same sister needs a surgry to fix her ututerus before she gets ehr first period. Between all the costs it'll cost upwards of 10,000. Probably closer to around 15 with all the followup appointments that they want. My mother (and by extention my little sister) does not qualify for any health insurance besides what her work offers, which will not cover the surgery because it's not "seriously detrimental to her health" if put off. If my mom made $1000 less per year she would be qualified for a health insurance that would cover the surgury. As things stand, my sister will not ever be able to have kids. 3) My other sister was once taken to to a doctor (not her normal pedi, who was out of town) Doctor didnt even see her. Looked at her symptoms and said seh could have any one of a number of things, and gave three prescriptions and said "These perscriptions will not interfere with eachother, and should not have any side effects. It's a good chance one of these will make whatever she has better. If not come see me in three days." One of the percriptions was for amoxicilin (sp?) which my sister is allergic to. Maybe that's not the fault of the health care system, maybe thats just a case of negligence, but still. More problems.

56, as a matter of fact the primary reason i voted for obama was because he's a DEMOCRAT. which i also am. i also liked him because he was a good speaker, he actually spoke about this country taking RESPONSIBILITY and making SACRIFICES for all the things that got ****** up under bush's regime, and i have been waiting for-*******-EVER for healthcare reform. it is ridiculous that any decent medical/vision/dental provider isn't "in-network" with ANY insurances, and you have to pay out the ass to get even partially covered by a PPO plan. i wouldn't mind paying extra for a PPO if that meant out-of-network was covered the same as in-network, but i'm not paying more per month to have to pay a deductible and STILL get saddled with 20-50% of the remaining cost. besides, you KNOW a democratic candidate is good when even people in TEXAS have bumper stickers supporting him. i must've seen at least 5 times as many obama bumper stickers as kerry/edwards in '04.

@ignorance haha one of my teachers had a calender that had a stupid bush quote for every day of the year, some of the crap was hilarious!!!!! and that about obama is almost exactly what i said above! lmao! and the idiot is only good with speeches when he has his teleprompter! i wish i could remember when and where he screwed up BAD because he didn't have his teleprompter. the only news i watch anymore is fox because most of them side with the idiot

jazzy129 0

Wow i really just read this site because it makes me laught but you people who are republicans and only think obama got elected because hes black must lay off the drugs. I am a girl who is mixed and I am college educated and agreed with obama way more then mccain. FIrst of all if you can trust someone who can make SARAH PALIN apart of his campaign go right I ahead. I know I can not. How can you trust someone like to make decisions for the whole country when he picks the most appaling women of all time. I do feel like mccain would have had a better chance if he picked a smart woman. Also i knew many white people who agreed with Obama on his views. Also anyone who knows anything knows that our health care system is crap and if you watched the news or read any newspapers you could see that a healthcare reform has been trying to happen since bill clinton was in offfice. AND how can you trust Fox news when they allow crazy people like ANN COLTER on tv! As you can see im not a ghetto mixed girl. I come from a very affluent town in Connecticut and many of the people i know in this town voted Obama. Also, everyone knew the economy was gonna get worse before it got better because of the state Bush left us in with his "War on Terrorism"

@ jazzy #78 No one is saying that every single person who voted for Obama made the decision solely on his race. I don't doubt that you agree with his policies, but because of that I also don't doubt that you're dumb. Also, it's almost a fact that Obama won based on being black. The number of black voters went up by something like 70% this election as compared with the last election, and 99% of the new black voters voted for Obama. There is a similar trend with other minorities. If he was white those people wouldn't have voted. BTW I'm not a fan of either Obama or McCain so don't start bashing McCain to me; I know.

@Paige_Nicole10 Fox News? This explains a lot about your opinion then, you fully drink the Republican kool-aid and toe the party line. Like most of the other anti-Obama loudmouths you parrot everything the party tells you without actually critically thinking about what you are saying. I think its hilarious that Obama gets the kind of crap he does after 6 months in office because the Republicans cant get over the fact their candidate wasnt good enough, yet putting McCain in office would have been the same as putting Bush back in for another 4, Bush solved nothing while in office, created the economic mess the country is in by ignoring it completely and still allowing his cronies to reap massive profits at the expenses of taxpayers. Fox News = Fail

jazzy129 0

I am not actually a dumb person but good try. I actually go to an extremly hard to college to get into. I scored very high on my SATs and I also watch CNN and read the newspapers. Oh and did i forget to mention my minor is in political science. I also come from money but I still am a Democrat through and through and I dont agree with the republicans at all. I also know how to have a conversation about politics without calling someone dumb. Most of the kids who go to my school are republicans so I will take the high road and not face off with you in an argument you will not win. Oh and by the way even if Obama was all white I still would have voted for him. Oh and Obama IS white. His mother is white his father is black so stop saying he is the first black president. Thanks bunches!

Obama's white? Have you seen a picture of him? Black and white aren't races; I guess they don't go over that in whatever polisci classes you've taken at your amazing smart-people university. So no, he is not white. But I suppose that you can argue that he's not black, either - his skin color is more a chocolate brown color... one that our society tends to classify as black. By that definition, he is indeed the first black president we've had. Now, if you want to argue whether he is Caucasian or African American, well, he's both. So yes, he is Caucasian, but he is also African American. Let me repeat that - he IS African American. So yes, he's the first African American president we have had. I don't go to a fancy private university, and I'm not really into government, or politics, but that doesn't mean I can't spot your flaws and point them out. And believe me, by telling us how smart you are, and what a great education you're getting, and how you're kind of an expert on this subject (I admit, I'm reading between the lines) you were begging to be called out. And by all means, feel free to respond. I'm not an expert, and I could use some clearing up on some points I may not understand as well as I should.

since when does agreeing with democratic policies automatically make someone dumb? what, because i want to have the freedom of choice over my reproductive rights, because i believe all people regardless of sexuality are equal and entitled to the benefits of marriage? because i think people should take responsibility for their fellow man instead of lining their pockets with $100 bills while others go homeless and hungry? because i know that "low taxes" = "huge deficit"? because i don't believe in "shoot first, ask questions later"? all of that makes me dumb? next time try actually arguing policy instead of flinging insults.
