Stuck

By Snowzies - 06/01/2010 13:42 - United Kingdom

Today, it was snowing really badly, so my boss said that everyone who drove to work could leave. But because I got the bus in, she said that I should stay and do a full day. By the time she eventually decided it was bad enough for me to leave, the buses were cancelled. FML

wow your boss is a dumbass. taking a bus is no different from driving yourself, the roads have to be clear either way. your boss better have given you a ride home.

Buses get cancelled before its too bad for cars, your boss lacks any concept of public transport.

that's kind of depressing...did you at least get paid for that day?! How come you couldn't get a ride? Did NO ONE offer to take you home? People today...*sigh*

Your boss needs a mental enema and a kick to his/her genitalia.

Since you're from the UK, you have to know who Jeremy Clarkson is - and if you know who he is, then you'd also know that he'll tell you that public transportation is never better than a car. YDI for using crappy public transportation.

Furthermore, what makes you think that just because OP is from the UK and knows who Jeremy Clarkson she agrees with Clarkson or even has them means to drive if she wanted to?

"Furthermore, what makes you think that just because OP is from the UK and knows who Jeremy Clarkson she agrees with Clarkson or even has them means to drive if she wanted to?" If she doesn't agree with him, then she totally deserves getting screwed by public transportation. That's the whole point of my quote from him - public transportation sucks and if you choose to use it, then you get what you deserve when it lets you down. As for "her having the means to drive", all of the people I've known from the UK or Europe that didn't drive did so because they chose to rely on public transportation, not because they are unable to drive - they chose not to have a car and as such when they run into situations where they get screwed for not having a car, they totally deserve it.

You know, some people don't have cars because they can't afford one. Or because they can't drive (in some cases due to medical reasons). You can't just assume everyone that doesn't have a car or uses public transport does so out of choice. OP, you did not deserve this at all - your boss is an idiot and had better have given you a lift home!!! Or at least paid the taxi fare. I feel really sorry for you :(

My comment was meant for a person who said "shouldn't she be in the kitchen?"

Totally agreed! It's really, really annoying!

YDI for going to work when all over the news it's been saying WARNING EXTREME SNOW! DO NOT LEAVE HOME UNLESS YOU'RE DYING and stuff like that

Sometimes employees can't just sit out on work, even with bad weather.

Some people don't watch tv, like me (much anyways)

umm... shouldn't she be be in the kitchen?

"I'm from the UK, I can't drive, and neither can three of my friends. Or my mother. Or my grandmother." And who's fault is that? I highly doubt that they have a law forbidding you to drive. You chose not to get a car / license. That's my point - she made a choice to rely on public transportation. When you make a choice to rely on someone else for important things (like getting to / from work), don't complain when it bites you in the butt.

And just because someone uses public transportation, doesn't mean they are unable or unwilling to drive. In many large cities (NYC and Paris come to mind), using public transportation is more convenient than driving. Maybe OPs car is in the shop. Maybe, given the crappy weather, she didn't want to drive. People are just as reliant on cars as they are on public transportation. If I drive the three miles to work and my car breaks down, do I deserve it because "well, technically, you could have walked three miles..."?

I also live in the UK and I can drive, but since I live in the city, it is more convenient and also cheaper to use public transport. Besides, people should have the same rights, no matter how they came to work.

that's me!! but you didn't make a comment? :(

i did, but it ended up in the wrong place and disappeared.

Warning: my comment is unrelated to the FML. The comment glitch on FML really needs fixed. One person will be #(enter number here) but then their comment disappears and is replaced by someone else's comment. People will comment to one person, but then they refresh the page and their reply is to somebody else's totally unrelated comment because the person they meant their reply to was replaced. Not only that, sometimes people make really good points when they comment and it's just replaced. Then, a minute later the comment is back, and it's replaced again by the other comment. Like people's comments conflict with each other if they're posted at nearly the same time. If any FML staff is reading this, do you understand what I'm talking about? Do you plan to fix it?

We are aware of this problem and we are working to fix it.

My post #32 was supposed to be @ #31; MermaidSongXOXO.
