Today, my boyfriend said he wanted to marry me. Since he doesn't know my ring size, he asked for me to find a ring that I liked, and he would buy it and propose. The only problem is that he won't spend more than 200 dollars on it. Oh, the generosity. FML

It's about the love, not the ring.

$200 is way more than you should spend on a ring anyway. YDI for valuing the ring over the love!

My husband spent 20 bucks on a ring since we didn't have a lot of money..I love it and will never let him replace it with a more expensive one!! people are way to materialistic!!

My engagement ring is a fake from my best friend and my wedding band was 10$! Really!? Since when did money become more important than the fact that he loves you?? YDI for being a materialistic, snobby, ungrateful person.

my husband proposed to me with an $8 ring that turned my finger green. now, two years later, i have a $1400 dollar ring, but i still where the $8 dollar one around my neck. $200 is GENEROUS. You're lucky he wants to spend his life with you.

The generosity? Coming from a person that wants to spend over $200 on a piece of metal that goes around a finger

Why don't you buy the rings? Why does the guy have to? In the past they use to buy things that were actually useful like washing machines for engagements. Now they buy overpriced ******* rocks.

Get over yourself. YDI for being greedy and equating his love with money.

Damn you don't need a million dollar ring

I think an engagement ring/wedding ring should be a little more expensive because it's supposed to last a lifetime and they're usually made nicer. I know my insurance plan on it was $150 alone, so I see where OP is coming from

Actually Erto your wrong. The engagement ring goes back centuries, especially in Ireland where the claddaugh ring has particular signifigance. And the ring it a simple of unity and love for eternity, not just some silly gift. Its a pledge of love, that is why the ancients wore the ring on the fourth finger of their left hand, it is the only finger to have a direct line to the heart, and so, the finger of love. Learn your history. And a ring doesn't have to be a million, but it should say how you feel and respect the responsibility of the woman it is being bought for. I am a woman and want my boyfriend to pick a ring that makes him say "that's her, I can see her wearing that the rest of her life."
