He's probably cheating on you with your friend. That's the only reason he would give her such an expensive gift. My advice is to leave him, he doesn't deserve you.

Why would he be buying her anything for her birthday if he only knows her through you? There is a really strong chance he is cheating on you with her.

It sounds like there is a communication issue here - is he really buying that _for_ her or is she saying that to cover that it's a surprise for you (or his mother, or just someone he wants to surprise)? If it's really for your friend, the question of _why_ he would do this is obviously important. Buying expensive rings for girls is a pretty personal gift.

Is it her birthday too? How do you know what he's buying for your birthday and how much it costs? How do you know he's buying her one too? Not enough info for people to be judging him. If you're a nosy body, and he knows you dont trust him, maybe it's on you and your friend is just helping him "hide" your surprise, although that sounds like a stupid way to do it. Need more info before people jump to the conclusion that he's a cheating jerk. For all we know, your friend just told you this stuff to stir it up for reasons of jealousy or whatever.
